Grammy-nominated singer, Akon has revealed his future plans of creating a real city like ‘Wakanda’ and launched his own cryptocurrency called Akoin.
The multi-platinum selling music producer unveiled his ambitious plans while talking at a creative festival in Cannes.
Apart from being a Senegalese-American rapper, he is also a solar energy entrepreneur. While speaking at the event he emphasized on the blockchain technology that might empower people in Africa and improve their conditions.
Ambitions of establishing an ‘Akon Crypto City’
Senegal President has granted 2,000 acres to Akon and he plans to establish “Akon Crypto City”, states Akoin website.
The city will have cryptocurrencies as their main currency for the transaction. The website also states that the Akon Crypto City will be located within five miles of the country’s new international airport. It will use smart city designs and it would ‘cryptonize’ daily business.
A philanthropist at heart:
Akon co-founded Akon Lighting Africa with Samba Bathily and Thione Niang in 2014 for developing a solar-powered solution for providing African villages access to an affordable and clean source of electricity, organization’s website asserts.
Akon Lighting Africa is based in New York City and has installed solar solutions in 14 African countries.
