Afghanistan Premier League, 2018
Balkh Legends vs Nangarhar Leopards, 17th Match | BAL vs NAN WHO WILL WIN
As the caravan of the 2018 Afghanistan Premier League approaches the business stage of the tournament, Balkh Legends will square off against Nangarhar Leopards as the latter aims to resurrect their campaign.
With five wins in six games thus far, Balkh Legends’ have been the team to beat in the tournament thus far.
They displayed their dominance to the hilt in the last game against Kabul Zwanan with an imperious batting effort, spearheaded by none other than the Chris Gayle. The ‘Universe Boss’, in a swashbuckling display of power-hitting that saw him bludgeon ten sixes, scored a 48-ball-80.
Gayle was ably backed up by Dilshan Munaweera (46) and Darwish Rasooli (50) as Balkh Legends’ posted 6-244 in 20 overs, which despite Hazratullah Zazai’s sensational power-hitting was enough to hand them their fifth win of the tournament.
After winning their first game of the season, it has been a downward spiral of epic proportions for the Nangarhar Leopards.
The succeeding six games has resulted in a solitary win [against Kabul Zwanan by 15 runs] and with just a solitary game left, they would need to bring their A game to the fore and also hope for some results to go their way to harbour any chances of making it to the semi-finals.
They come into this game on the back of a 7-wicket loss at the hands of Pakhtia Panthers after an insipid batting effort resulted in them posting an underwhelming 126 in 20 overs.
Nangarhar’s fledgeling batting unit was again on display, the last time these two sides met.
Chasing a paltry 144, the Leopards’ were wrecked by a four-wicket haul from Mirwais Ashraf as their lower-middle order folded in a sensational fashion to get bowled out for 118 in 19.1 overs- 25 runs adrift of the target.
Anton Devcich, with 48 was the highest run-getter for Nangarhar in that match. He would have to get a lot more if the Leopards’ are to make a match out of it against the Legends’, come Wednesday.
