England tour of Sri Lanka, 2018
Sri Lanka vs England, 1st ODI
England will start their 45-day sojourn of the Lankan isles tomorrow when the No.1 ODI side will square off against the island nation in the first ODI of the 5-match series at Dambulla.
It has been a completely different story from the last time England headed to Sri Lanka for an ODI series four years ago in last 2014 with impending questions on their white-ball set-up ahead of the 2015 World Cup.
Venue:- Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Dambulla
Match Timing:- Wednesday, October 10, 2018, 02:30 PM IST
Four years on, England arrive as the No.1 ODI side in the world with series wins against Australia (4-1, 5-0) and against India (2-1) in their recently concluded summer, England’s approach to white-ball cricket ever since their disastrous 2015 World Cup campaign has been refreshingly attacking; something which you seldom associate with an English side of the past.
In Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy, Eoin Morgan and all the way down to Jos Buttler, England have an imperious batting line-up which can tear any bowling line-up apart coupled with able all-rounders in Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali making it an uphill battle for any opposition side as India and Australia found out recently.
The hosts, meanwhile, are grappling with a plethora of issues on and off the field. On the field, they were sent packing from the Asia Cup after humiliating defeats against Bangladesh and Afghanistan, and off it, their skipper Angelo Mathews was scrapped from the side on account of fitness.
