SL vs ENG Dream11 Predictions
England tour of Sri Lanka, 2018
Sri Lanka vs England, 3rd ODI | SL vs ENG Dream11 Who Will Win
After witnessing a plethora of rain at Dambulla, with one match getting washed out, the caravan of England’s sojourn of the Lankan island moves to Pallekele where both sides will lock horns for the third ODI on Wednesday.
Beleaguered Sri Lanka look to stem the flow of defeats
31 defeats in their last 42 ODI matches, hosts Sri Lanka have hit the nadir; much like what England did during their last visit to the Lankan islands.
While they have received a much-needed fillip in the bowling line-up with the addition of Lasith Malinga- the veteran fast bowler claimed five-wickets in the last game, their batting remains a major issue, something which was evident right through the Asia Cup, as well as, in the last ODI against England.
After restricting England to a manageable 9-278 in 50 overs, the Lankan top-order faltered big time against the raw pace of Olly Stone (1-23) and Chris Woakes’ outswingers, who claimed figures of 3-26 to leave the hosts reeling at 4-31.
Dhananjaya de Silva (36) and Thisara Perera 944) held the fledgeling ship with a 43-run stand but it was all too late as Sri Lanka were behind the eight-ball game when the heavens opened up to bring an end to the proceedings, with the tourists still 40-runs behind as per the DLS par score.
With two matches already gone, the third match assumes pivotal importance for the hosts as another blip would result in England taking an unassailable lead in the series.
England look to assert dominance with another commanding performance
England’s resurgence in white-ball cricket has been a revelation ever since their disastrous 2015 World Cup campaign in Australia.
Unlike Sri Lanka, Eoin Morgan’s men have won 31 of their last 41 completed ODIs and they proved their versatility as a side in the last game. When faced with a slowish track and losing both openers relatively cheaply, England’s middle-order spearheaded by Joe Root (71) and skipper Eoin Morgan (92) consolidated the innings to take their side to a competitive 9-278 in 50 overs.
One thing that has been missing from an English ODI set-up is a genuine fast bowler who can crank it up in the high 140s. The visitors seem to be getting there with Oly Stone making an impressive debut in the last match against Sri Lanka’s top-order, and while they’ll miss the services of Liam Dawson, they have another exciting prospect in Joe Denly, who is coming off a great domestic season for Kent.
