In the first of the two matches test series, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first. With a splendid 158 of 222 deliveries knock from Dimuth Karunaratne, Sri Lanka managed 287-10 in 78.4 over in the first innings. In response, South Africa could only manage 126-10 with the help of Faf du Plessis’s 49 of 88 balls.
In second innings, Sri Lanka managed 190 at loss of 10 wickets with Karunaratne’s fifty. It was almost an unbeatable target for the visitors and they got booked at 73 in the second innings. Sri Lanka won the test by 278 runs and acquired a 1-0 series lead.
Both the teams will now meet at Colombo for the 2nd test. While Sri Lanka’s captain Dinesh Chandimal remains out of this test also, South Africa would be relieved with Tabraiz Shamsi rejoining the squad for Colombo test. Shamsi had impressing figures of 3 for 91 and 1 for 37 in the first test. After the second Test, both the teams will play 5 ODIs and a one-off T20I.
