Pakistan vs New Zealand in the UAE, 2018
Pakistan vs New Zealand, 1st T20I | NZ vs PAK WHO WILL WIN
After claiming a series whitewash against the Aussies, Pakistan will look to continue with their imperious run-of-form in the shortest format of the game when they take on New Zealand in the first T20I on Tuesday.
Pakistan aim for yet another dominant performance; New Zealand hope to exploit chinks in the hosts’ armour
Pakistan has been imperious in the shortest format of the game ever since Sarfaraz Ahmed took over the reins from Shahid Afridi post their disastrous World Twenty20 campaign in 2016.
Since July 2016, Pakistan has proceeded to win 26 of the 30 T20I which includes ten consecutive bilateral series win in a row; one of them coming against their current opponents-New Zealand (2-1 in January 2018).
Part of Pakistan”s success can be attributed to the PSL which has unearthed batsmen like Babar Azam, Hasan Ali, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman and Shadab Khan.
- New Zealand drew the last T20I series they played in the UAE (1-1 in 2014)
- Pakistan won the T20I series during their tour of New Zealand earlier this year (2-1).
- Pakistan is unbeaten in T20I in the UAE since 2016.
- Last Five matches (Head-to-Head)
- New Zealand- 3, Pakistan- 2
But, as was evident in the Australia series, Pakistan’s jittery middle-order could be something the Kiwis could exploit with their spin duo of Ish Sodhi and uncapped Ajaz Patel, who has been called up to the squad after an impressive showing in the recently concluded A series against Pakistan A.
New Zealand will also miss the services of Martin Guptill, who is ruled out of the entire tour due to calf injury giving Glenn Philips an opportunity to stake his claim in the national side.
Phillips, who has thus far featured in 8 T20I for New Zealand has displayed impressive form in the CPL and also the recently concluded T20 series against Pakistan A, where he plundered two half-centuries in three games.
New Zealand drew the T20I series last time they were in the UAE and if they can achieve the same, it will be a stupendous achievement.
